Every October I make a trip over to the nearest store that carries lots of paint. Why? Because every year I repaint my heart black & gold. As the heat of summer calms and the crisp weather of early Fall makes its grand introduction, you know its hockey season. Like every year, I thought as most Bruins fans do, would be different. New GM, new coach, new players. The result, new team, same old story. The idea of these exciting new players coming to Boston sparked some hope somewhere deep down in every fan's heart, whether they chose to admit it or not. Although I always say 1972 is only a number, that number is looking further and further away. Boston sports history is defined by the Boston Bruins and the Boston Celtics. Ironically the two teams that have struggled in recent years while the town becomes flooded with cocky Red Sox and Patriots fans. Despite the state of my boys at the end of this year, I acquired tickets to "Fan Appreciation" night. Well, it's the least they could do seeing they made us suffer all year long. Don't appreciate my dedication by giving me useless t-shirts and other various prizes and gifts. Hey I know, we aren't going to win a Stanley Cup this year so lets give instant seat upgrades and a lunch date with Bruins captain Zdeno Chara. Hm... seat upgrades? Been there, done that, as far as lunch with Big Z goes, ha ill take a Cup over that any day. The rants of him being a 7 million dollar Hal Gill are already arising, and I'm not going to continue on this topic because I can feel myself slipping into depression the more I think about it. So for now, I can say I enjoyed my $6 beers and watching my Bruins fall to Big Z's old playoff bound team, Ottawa. So when is there going to be real change? When is it the Bruins turn? When will Lord Stanley return to Boston and erase it's 35 year absence? It's going to be a long, hot summer.
